Currently, The BCMS Foundation's Scholarship program is administered through the Bexar County Scholarship Clearing House, which is supported by The Minnie Piper Stevens Foundation (MPSF).
MPSF assembles a catalog of local opportunities available to area students and distributes the booklet to each respective high school counselor. Based on our submitted criteria (below), high school counselors nominate students from their school by the stated fall deadline. In early spring our BCMS Foundation committee reviews the nominations and selects our award recipients.
The number of scholarships BCMS foundation awards each year varies according to the success of our annual fundraising efforts and our investment returns.
Scholarship selection is based on academic achievement, financial need, community involvement, leadership and a desire for a career in the medical, nursing or allied health field.
Open to high school seniors who meet the admission requirements of the Texas college or Texas university they are planning to attend as a full-time student (12+ hours). In addition to filling out the standard application and providing the requested information and documents, applicants must also include a resume/activity record and a Student Aid Report (SAR), including the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC), which is derived from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Currently, there are no restrictions concerning how the award is to be used; however, scholarship recipients must be U.S. Citizens and must prepare for a career in the medical, nursing or allied health fields with the exception of: Veterinary, Massage Therapy, Chiropractic Care and Psychology.
